hope against hope

-------------------------
During the day
I am cloaked with smiles and indifference
Masked with glitter and a cool stare
Alone in the night
the cloak slips off
the mask drops off
and
I lie awake
wondering
churning
hurting
The storm
Never
Ends
It is with me
All
The
Time
But nobody sees it.
Nobody sees me.
Memories plague me.
The bad ones,
even the good ones.
I am so confused.
Why
Why
Why
I will never be able to explain to you why —
You must know without me telling you.
Because even when they see me
They do not recognize me,
They do not understand me.
It pains me so I chose to wear this mask
But
I am waiting.
Waiting for you to see me behind my mask.
Waiting for you to understand me without me having to explain to you.
I am waiting for you to love me —
with or without my mask.
Because
I do love you
I just don’t know how to tell you.
